How I engineered a cross-platform internal application suite that empowers staff, streamlines warehouse logistics, and extends a legacy ERP into a high-efficiency mobile workflow.

While building a high-performance e-commerce storefront solves the customer-facing side of a business, the internal operations of a major wholesale distributor require an entirely different level of engineering. International Salon Supplies (ISS) handles thousands of product movements, trade account verifications, and complex logistics daily across their physical showroom and warehouse.

To bridge the gap between their legacy Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and the fast-paced needs of their on-the-floor staff, I architected and developed Shop Assistant. This internal ecosystem consists of a centralized web management console alongside native-performing iOS and Android applications, transforming how their team manages day-to-day operations.

Here is an overview of how the platform optimizes their internal workflows.

The Challenge: Liberating the ERP from the Desktop

Enterprise Resource Planning systems are incredibly powerful data repositories, but they are notoriously rigid and rarely optimized for mobile, fast-moving staff. ISS team members on the showroom floor or in the warehouse needed immediate access to data without running back to a desktop terminal.

The goal was to build a secure, real-time extension of this ERP that could run flawlessly on mobile devices, handle offline edge-cases in the warehouse, and automate repetitive administrative tasks.

The Solution: A Multi-Platform Internal Powerhouse

In compliance with strict corporate NDA guidelines, the specific data synchronizations and underlying infrastructure remain proprietary. However, the architectural focus was clear: create a fast, secure, middleware-driven ecosystem that reads and writes to the ERP while providing an intuitive UI for the staff.

I broke down the application’s capabilities into four operational pillars:

1. Showroom Floor & Inventory Optimization

  • Instant Product Lookup & Price Checker: Staff can instantly scan or search any SKU on their mobile devices to check live stock levels, active promotions, and tiered trade pricing right next to a customer on the showroom floor.

  • Stock Discrepancy Reporting: Discrepancies between physical inventory and the digital system cause massive headaches. I built a rapid logging feature into the mobile app, allowing warehouse staff to flag stock anomalies instantly on the spot, triggering immediate internal alerts for audit.

2. Streamlined B2B Onboarding & Account Management

  • On-the-Go Customer Approvals: Because ISS operates a strict trade-only wholesale model, new accounts require validation. Shop Assistant gives administrators the ability to review trade credentials, cross-reference data, and approve wholesale accounts directly from their phones.

  • Dynamic Price List Generation: B2B clients frequently request custom, updated price sheets based on their specific wholesale tiers. I engineered a automated utility that compiles real-time ERP data into clean, branded, downloadable PDF price lists in seconds.

  • Customer Stock Alerts: The system monitors inventory thresholds for high-demand items and automatically flags staff when VIP trade customers need to be alerted that their preferred products are back in stock.

3. Procurement, Logistics & Delivery Tracking

  • Purchase Order (PO) Handling: The app provides a clear dashboard for tracking incoming procurement pipelines, allowing staff to verify incoming supplier shipments directly against logged purchase orders.

  • Real-Time Delivery Tracking: For outgoing wholesale shipments, the platform integrates courier endpoints into a unified view, allowing customer service representatives to track multi-item deliveries instantly when resolving client inquiries.

4. Content Control & Custom Reporting

  • Agile Content Management: A direct control panel that allows management to adjust specific digital catalog attributes on the fly without needing deep database manipulation.

  • Custom Reporting Engine: Standard ERP reports are often bloated and slow. I built a lightweight, tailored analytics interface that distills complex sales, inventory turnover, and staff performance metrics into clean, actionable dashboards.

The Impact

By taking Shop Assistant from initial scoping through to deployment on the iOS App Store, Google Play Store, and internal web servers, the operational efficiency of International Salon Supplies shifted dramatically.

Warehouse auditing times dropped, trade account approval bottlenecks were eliminated, and the showroom team became entirely untethered from physical desks. This project demonstrates how targeted middleware and mobile applications can unlock massive value from an existing enterprise system, translating complex backend data into real-world operational speed.
